Diagnosis and Conservative Therapy for Interproximal Decay

interproximal-decay

A small radiolucency is apparent. Differentiating this from cervical burnout which is a radiographic artifact is important. Misdiagnosing would result in an iatrogenic procedure ( a mistake in therapy ). Utilizing high powered magnification conservative therapy ( excavation of decay and placement of a flowable composite restoration ) is achieved with minimal destruction of healthy tooth structure.

Please note the shade match discrepancy on the adjacent crown restoration. There is also some gingival discoloration on the crown margins. This may be the result of an allergic reaction to the metal coping.
