Is A Tooth Worth Saving?

tooth-worth-saving

This emergency patient arrived at my office with a fractured restoration. Clinical and radiographic exam showed an asymptomatic, endodontically ( had root canal therapy ) treated upper left second molar. His oral health was poor. He had many teeth with defective restorations or deteriorated restorations. The question is, if financial constraints are a big factor ( and in his case, this was a factor ), why spend time and money restoring a second molar when this restricts your ability to preserve your overall dentition ? Consider oral health in relation to your budget. In this case, we placed a composite restoration. Ideally, a crown restoration would be indicated however, this emergency therapy should prove durable long term.
