Repair of a Fractured Composite Restoration

fractured-composite-restoration

This patient presented with a fractured composite restoration. This tooth really at this point required a more substantial crown restoration rather than a composite repair. Since this patient is fearful of dental visits and needs to take Xanax as a mild tranquilizer prior to therapy, I attempted to limit her therapy by placing a bulk composite material in a single visit. A week later, she returned with the composite having failed. I again tried to avoid the time and expense of a full crown restoration this time preparing the tooth with retentive grooves and placing a flowable composite material. This seemed to have been successful. If she fractures this tooth again, she would have no choice other than to resort to a full crown restoration.
