To Crown or Not to Crown

This gentleman presented with an asymptomatic tooth with a fractured amalgam restoration. This tooth was also supporting a partial denture clasp. At first I thought that the only successful treatment would be to prepare this tooth for a crown restoration but this would involve multiple appointments and a lab bill. Time and money are always a factor with most patients. I decided to restore this tooth by placing two titanium pins and a flowable composite material. This is not an ideal treatment plan but I believe it is durable and will function well. He can always have a crown made in the future if necessary. It would be nice if he could afford to restore his upper dentition with implants or fixed bridges but this is beyond his budget. to-crown
